Red Light Therapy for Hips & Pelvis
The hip joint is one of the deepest joints in the body, covered by significant muscle and soft tissue. While direct light therapy to the hip joint is limited by tissue depth, NIR wavelengths can still reach the trochanteric bursa, gluteal tendons, and superficial hip structures. Large panels provide the best coverage for this area.

Recommended Wavelengths
Recommended Device Types
- *Full-body panels
- *Large panels
- *Wrap belts
Treatment Tips
- *Use NIR-only wavelengths for hip joint (maximum penetration)
- *Target the lateral hip for trochanteric bursitis
- *For hip OA, treat anterior, lateral, and posterior approaches
- *Include gluteal muscles for referred hip pain
- *Longer treatment times may be needed due to tissue depth
- *Combine with hip strengthening and stretching exercises
Light Penetration Notes
The hip joint is covered by thick gluteal muscles and the joint capsule is 4-8cm deep depending on body composition. While NIR light (810-850nm) has limited direct reach to the joint, it effectively treats the surrounding muscles, tendons, and bursae. Trochanteric structures are more superficial and responsive to PBM.
