About RedLightOS

An independent resource for evidence-based red light therapy protocols, device reviews, and dosing guidance.

What is RedLightOS?

RedLightOS is a protocol management platform for red light therapy (photobiomodulation). We combine a searchable database of devices, conditions, and treatment protocols with tools that help you calculate doses, track sessions, and measure progress over time.

The project started from a simple frustration: the gap between what the clinical research actually says and the marketing claims that dominate the red light therapy space. Manufacturer websites cherry-pick studies, influencers make unsupported claims, and consumers are left guessing at dosing parameters that have been well-established in the literature for decades.

RedLightOS exists to close that gap. Every condition page, protocol recommendation, and device review on this site is grounded in published peer-reviewed research. Where the evidence is strong, we say so. Where it is weak or preliminary, we say that too.

Our Mission

Evidence-based red light therapy for everyone.

Red light therapy has a substantial body of clinical evidence behind it, but that evidence is scattered across thousands of papers, often behind paywalls, and written for researchers rather than consumers. Our mission is to translate that research into practical, actionable guidance that anyone can use.

We believe that access to accurate health information should not depend on whether you can afford a consultation with a photobiomodulation specialist or have the training to read primary literature. RedLightOS aims to be the most trustworthy free resource in this space.

Key Features

Protocol Score

Your Protocol Score (0–100) measures how closely your sessions follow evidence-based dosing guidelines. It accounts for dose accuracy, frequency consistency, body zone targeting, and protocol adherence.

Progress Photos

Take standardized progress photos per body zone and generate shareable before/after comparison cards — complete with your dose data overlay for credible results tracking.

AI Coach

Get personalized protocol suggestions based on your goals, session history, and the latest photobiomodulation research. Powered by Claude AI.

Light Check

Use your phone camera to measure relative irradiance from any panel. Verify your device is performing as expected without an expensive meter.

We Don't Sell Devices

RedLightOS is editorially independent. We do not manufacture, sell, or distribute red light therapy devices. We do not accept payment from device manufacturers for reviews, placement, or recommendations. We do not run affiliate programs that would create financial incentives to recommend one device over another.

This matters because the red light therapy market is full of conflicts of interest. Most “review” sites are funded by the manufacturers they review. Most “best device” lists link to the product with the highest affiliate commission, not the product with the best specifications for a given use case.

Our neutrality is deliberate. When we say a device is well-suited for a particular condition, that recommendation is based on its wavelength output, irradiance at treatment distance, treatment area coverage, and price-to-performance ratio — not on who pays us.

How We Grade Evidence

Every condition and treatment claim on RedLightOS is assigned an evidence grade from A (strongest) to D (weakest). These grades are based on the volume, quality, and consistency of the available clinical research.

A

Strong Evidence

Multiple RCTs, systematic reviews, or meta-analyses with consistent positive findings.

B

Moderate Evidence

Several controlled studies with generally positive results but some inconsistencies in methodology or outcomes.

C

Limited Evidence

Pilot studies, small sample sizes, or preliminary findings that suggest benefit but require further validation.

D

Emerging / Anecdotal

Case reports, animal studies, or mechanistic plausibility without adequate human clinical data.

The Team

RedLightOS is built and maintained by a small independent team. We are researchers, developers, and longtime users of red light therapy who got tired of the misinformation in this space and decided to build something better.

Our content is reviewed against primary sources and updated as new research is published. We are not affiliated with any device manufacturer, clinic, or practitioner network.
