Protocol for TMJ disorder treating the temporomandibular joint, masseter muscle, and lateral pterygoid area. NIR wavelengths penetrate to the joint structures to reduce inflammation and pain.
Protocol Parameters
| Condition | Temporomandibular Joint Disorder |
| Wavelengths | 810nm, 830nm, 850nm |
| Dosage | 4-6 J per point, 3-4 points |
| Irradiance | 50-100 mW/cm² |
| Duration | 30-60 seconds per point |
| Frequency | 3x per week for 4-6 weeks |
| Body Zone | face |
| Evidence Level | Moderate |
Mechanism of Action
PBM reduces inflammation in the TMJ capsule and synovial membrane, decreases masseter muscle hyperactivity, and promotes healing of the articular disc. It also modulates pain transmission through the trigeminal nerve pathway.
