Red Light Therapy for Scalp & Hair
The scalp is treated primarily for hair loss conditions, particularly androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness). Red light at 630-660nm stimulates hair follicle dermal papilla cells, prolonging the growth (anagen) phase and increasing follicle blood supply. Specialized cap and helmet devices provide convenient, hands-free scalp coverage.

Recommended Wavelengths
Recommended Device Types
- *Laser/LED caps
- *Helmet devices
- *Small panels positioned overhead
Treatment Tips
- *Use every other day, not daily — follows the biphasic dose response
- *Cap/helmet devices provide the most consistent scalp coverage
- *Minimum 4-6 months of consistent use before expecting visible results
- *Can be combined with minoxidil and/or finasteride
- *Hair should be clean and dry — product buildup can block light
- *Part hair if possible to maximize direct scalp exposure
- *Take monthly photos from consistent angles to track progress
Light Penetration Notes
Scalp skin is moderately thick but hair follicles extend only 3-4mm deep, well within the penetration range of red wavelengths. Hair can scatter and block light, so direct scalp contact is ideal. Laser diodes provide focused penetration, while LEDs provide broader coverage.
