Irradiance (mW/cm²)
Irradiance measures the power density of light hitting the treatment surface. Higher irradiance means shorter session times. A device at 100 mW/cm² delivers the same total dose in half the time as one at 50 mW/cm². Look for at least 50 mW/cm² at the recommended treatment distance. Premium panels often exceed 150 mW/cm². Wavelengths

What to Avoid When Buying a Device
Not all red light therapy devices are created equal. Here are the most common pitfalls to watch out for when shopping:
- Vague wavelength claims. Look for devices that specify exact wavelengths (e.g., 660nm), not just “red light” or “infrared.” Broad-spectrum LEDs without specific wavelength targeting may not deliver therapeutic doses at the right frequencies.
- Inflated irradiance numbers. Some manufacturers measure irradiance at the LED surface rather than at the recommended treatment distance. Always check at what distance the irradiance was measured. Third-party tested values are more reliable.
- No-name Amazon devices under $50 often lack proper wavelength verification and may use low-quality LEDs that degrade quickly. Established brands in our device database have track records and community reviews.
